The cost of the building about to be erected is estimated at
$60,000, making the total indebtedness 172,000. In con-
-sidering these figures for the purpose of a building grant it is necessary to calculate the actual extra expenditure now being incurred for actual school buildings apart from the boarding establishment. I have inspected the whole premises
more than once, and have arrived at the opinion that allowing
for the $60,000 received from the Vicar Apostolic, the extra
expenditure may be safely calculated at not less than
880,000. I recommend, therefore, that a building grant of
840,000 should be made by this Government of which 820,000
should be entered in next year's Estimates and $20,000 in the
Estimates of 1921, payments to be made on a certificate of
the Director of Public Works that the new building will cost at least 860,000 and that the expenditure at any given time amounts to more than twice the amount of the grant made.
