The cost of the building about to be erected is estimated at

$60,000, making the total indebtedness 172,000. In con-

-sidering these figures for the purpose of a building grant it is necessary to calculate the actual extra expenditure now being incurred for actual school buildings apart from the boarding establishment. I have inspected the whole premises

more than once, and have arrived at the opinion that allowing

for the $60,000 received from the Vicar Apostolic, the extra

expenditure may be safely calculated at not less than

880,000. I recommend, therefore, that a building grant of

840,000 should be made by this Government of which 820,000

should be entered in next year's Estimates and $20,000 in the

Estimates of 1921, payments to be made on a certificate of

the Director of Public Works that the new building will cost at least 860,000 and that the expenditure at any given time amounts to more than twice the amount of the grant made.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord,

AB

Your Lordship's most obedient,

humble servant,

Aanstevem

Officer Administering the Government.
